Society has set parameters around what is deemed to be acceptable and unacceptable insofar as how we as human beings, are supposed to look, how we are supposed to act and to feel. As we get older (and a little wiser!) we realise that these ‘rules’ can be harsh and unrealistic. I happened across this article and it resonated so much with me that I had to re-post it here. I hope that it helps all of us, and our children and grandchildren, to realise that the expectations set down by society can be damaging and demeaning. Learning self love and acceptance goes a long way in loving who we are and our importance in the universe, as does learning to accept those around us in the same way. I have always been fascinated by other cultures and the lessons that they teach – this is a perfect example from the Japanese culture. I am not one for cultural appropriation, however I firmly believe in cultural appreciation as other cultures can teach us so much, as we can teach others lessons from our culture. So, I hope this article and the concept of ‘wabi-sabi’ helps each of you in accepting who you are. If we can begin by accepting each other in the same way, our small collective consciousness can help influence other collectives and assist moving this aspect of our society into acceptance. Enrich your Being time : create small time capsules in your day that are purely for you to reconnect with your Inner Self. Create a morning meditation ritual, take time out at lunchtime to sit in a park and enjoy the sunshine with no interruptions, take half an hour each night to spend quietly readying yourself for bed. Whatever 'Being' time you choose, begin by connecting with your heart and concentrate on your breathing. With each of these actions, you are living in the now, free from thoughts and deadlines. You are Being, not Doing. Cultivate your dreams : Although we live in the mundane world with set boundaries and routines, never lose sight of your dreams and aspirations. By connecting to our Self and creating space in our lives, so too can we connect with our dreams and aspirations through daydreams, the quiet space where we connect to our inner guidance and the guidance of Spirit. Our daydreams are our place of trust and joy, an inner knowing that everything is possible and through this we can see a path to our aspirations becoming a reality. Gracious Acceptance : our energy flows from our willingness to accept what life throws at us and to know that we are able, through the memories we carry in our DNA, to adapt and grow into each circumstance with acceptance and not anger – although circumstances that endanger, or threaten to endanger, ourselves and our families will see our Warrior Spirit come to the forefront! When you are next offered a compliment, graciously accept it for it comes from a place of warmth and respect. Ask for help when you need it without fear of retaliation, as the Universe teaches us the more we allow ourselves to receive, the more we are able to give. Please email me if you would like to discuss further Honouring our Inner Self is the greatest gift we can bestow upon ourselves. When we are truly at peace with who we are, we can truly then serve the world.
Initiate Self-Love : Inner Peace begins from within. By learning self-love, acceptance of whom we are physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually is to truly understand the gifts of the Universe. Each one of us is beautiful and sacred, a temple for our Spirit to experience life so learn to treat yourself with the love, support and nurturing it deserves. Be gentle with your thoughts and self-talk – your body is your best friend, talk to it as you would your best friend. There is nothing in this world that is perfect – perfection is an illusion. To reach perfection is to fail – there is nothing more to achieve once perfection is reached. Connect with Nature, the Mother that Nurtures us all : when we spend time outside, in our backyards, the park, the beach or hiking, we instantly connect with the Earth and with our Inner Self. The Earth nourishes each of us by providing the food we eat, cleansing the air we breathe and allowing us to ground our inner Self. Take off your shoes and enjoy the energy from the Earth, lie in the grass or sand and enjoy the sunshine – allow yourself to soak in the healing energies she offers. In return allow her to take your cares and troubles and calm your heart. By creating a regular practice of connecting to the Earth, your inner strength and wisdom will flourish. Know your boundaries : everyone, irrespective of their nationality, customs or beliefs, have an issue with boundaries and the hardest of these is our ability to just say “No”. It is a part of who we are. However, it is necessary in the world in which we live, to realise that we cannot please everybody. A part of learning Self-Love is knowing when to say no to demands that do not serve our higher good whether they be requests, relationships or habits. Learn to release them whilst remembering the lessons they’ve taught us. It is not possible for each of us to be a master of everything but to know what we are masterly at and to acknowledge it. Reiki is an energy healing therapy that treats the person as a whole – the body, the emotions, the mind and the spirit. It creates feelings of peace, security and well being. Reiki is a Japanese hands on healing technique for reducing stress and promotes relaxation so that the body is able to heal itself. As a healing art, it is simple, unobtrusive, complimentary and soothing. 2. It can help you ‘deal’ at work Reiki works to calm the mind and help reduce stress levels meaning you are more ‘present’ and ‘centred’ at work, even in the middle of a chaotic workplace or dealing with challenging colleagues! 3. If you catch a cold on a regular basis, it could be that your life force energy is low When your life force energy is strong and flowing freely, you feel alive and energised. When your life force energy is low due to long work hours, excessive partying or over indulging in the foods you love that you just know aren’t good for you, your life force energy becomes low and makes you more susceptible to illnesses – those pesky colds that hang around could be a sign that you need a Reiki boost! 4. Getting a good night’s sleep Due to the soothing, relaxing nature of Reiki, the natural energy healing it provides assists the body in stress reduction by helping to calm the energy centres of the body, allowing people suffering from sleeping difficulties to get a good night’s sleep. Unless you indulge in a couple of espresso’s and sugar laden cake as your midnight snack! 5. It can boost your immune system The linking of our brain and our body’s immune system connects illness, stress, mood and thought to sickness – in scientific circles this is referred to as psycho-neuro-immunology[1]. If we lose control over our psychological stresses, our body becomes weak and we increase our chances of becoming unwell. Yoga and Reiki are great ways to remain fit and healthy and present. Reiki assists stress reduction promoting relaxation by calming and balancing the energy centres of the body thereby increasing the body’s resistance to toxin caused by anxiety and stress. 6. Celebs are big fans! There are many Hollywood A-Listers who are huge advocates of Reiki including Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Ellen DeGeneres, Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone, Uma Thurman, Naomi Watts, Helen Hunt, Michael Flatley and Dr Oz [1] American Psychological Association “A new take on psychoneuroimmunology” |
